Our CEO, Dev Sanyal, led the session “Building a Global Clean Fuel Supply Chain” at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, as part of the launch of the CEO-led “Future of Clean Fuels” initiative.
This session brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to address one of the most pressing energy challenges of our time: scaling clean fuels over the next 5-15 years.
Fuels remain indispensable to the global energy mix, with demand projected to remain well beyond 2050. Clean fuels, whether bio-based, hydrogen-derived, or e-fuels, are an essential complement to electrification, especially in hard-to-abate sectors like aviation and shipping. However, their widespread adoption faces significant hurdles – from fragmented regulation and feedstock constraints to scalability and cost barriers.
The discussion focused on actionable solutions, emphasizing:
- Collaboration: Aligning across industries to build robust supply chains and harmonizing global standards.
- Policy Certainty: Creating predictable, long-term frameworks to drive investment and innovation.
- Infrastructure Adaptation: Leveraging existing assets like refineries for co-processing while scaling advanced technologies.
At VARO Energy, we are tackling these challenges head-on through projects like our Rotterdam SAF facility and partnerships with leading players to pioneer sustainable solutions. The energy transition demands collective action. The time to move beyond dialogue and deliver scalable results is now.
